Now, he enjoys rehabilitating patients back to the top of their performance. When he’s not working, Kevin enjoys camping, hiking, photography, athletics and hanging out with friends in sunny San Diego!
Kevin has a great personal story. Here it is as told by him.
While I was at Northeastern University studying and working part time at a physical therapy clinic, I encountered a moment that changed my outlook on fitness. While sitting with poor posture on a chair, my supervisor walked by and said “Hey Kevin, if you’re going to be a physical therapist you better start looking like one.” The PT was referring to my posture, as I slumped in my chair. The statement was simple, but got me thinking about what else I could be doing better on my way to becoming a therapist.
Practicing what you preach is the first thing that came to mind when my supervisor told me to stop slumping. I began to take that phrase to heart, thinking about what else I wasn’t practicing but was preaching. At 6’2, I weighed 240 pounds in college…not exactly the picture of physical health. I decided at that moment that I was going to drop some weight…after all, who is going to listen to what I say if I don’t look like I follow my own rules and recommendations.
With that in mind, I cancelled my account at the dining halls, learned how to cook my own healthy meals, and upped my cardio and high intensity training at the gym. I started developing my own workout routines and creating new and difficult exercises to keep my heart rate up and burn fat. I wanted to make sure I was able to lose weight AND keep it off. I was determined to make this happen, and over the course of two years, lost 55 pounds. Since then, I have continued to maintain my current weight through diet and specific exercise based on my goals.
Now as a physical therapist, I help train patients to meet their own health and fitness goals. It’s exciting to be able to help those who are determined and looking to change their life in order to get healthy. I have been there before, and know what it takes to get others there now. I look forward to helping people meet AND maintain their goals for years to come.
