Wendy Sallin, Certified MAT Provider
Wendy’s career in fitness started in 2002 as a running coach for various distances from 5Ks to full marathons. Her joy in helping people reach their goals, coupled with her knowledge of body mechanics, physiology, and psychology lead Wendy to then pursue her personal training certification through the American Council on Exercise in 2004 so that she could effectively guide her clients through their fitness journeys. Over the years, Wendy’s role as trainer has evolved to also being an overall wellness coach and she has had the pleasure of working with people world-wide as their guide through their own physical and behavioral transformational programs.
“In my many years of training clients, no matter how hard I tried to "correct" muscular imbalances through exercise alone, I knew I really wasn't getting to the root cause to fix the problem. Our bodies are fine-tuned compensation machines and although exercise is a good thing generally speaking, it can also reinforce improper muscular compensation patterns if only some of our muscles are communicating well with our nervous system and contracting efficiently. As a fitness professional, I wanted to be able to treat and improve my clients’ muscular systems at a much higher level, more specifically, so that my clients' exercise programs would have a greater positive impact on their bodies for the long haul. To do this, I went back to school to become a MAT® (Muscle Activation Technique) Practitioner, which gives me the knowledge and technical skill set to assess and treat each muscle to contract more efficiently.”
The overall goal of MAT ® is to improve the communication between each muscle and
the nervous system so that the muscle’s contractile capability improves. This
improvement, in turn, increases joint stability, mobility, range of motion, and life/sports
performance in addition to preventing injuries and decreasing pain. MAT ® is beneficial to all, regardless of your physical abilities or limitations, health histories, or fitness levels.
